Looks like a few days of dry weather.  Today should be in the upper 60s but cloudy.  Friday into Tuesday it will be sunny or partly sunny and temperatures in the upper 70s.  Yeah!  Rain might be sneaking into the picture on Wednesday…best chances right now look like Thursday.

We had some low generation this past Sunday.  Monday was high for a few hours in the morning then dropped it back until 4:00 that afternoon.  Tuesday and Wednesday the level and flows were basically high and up and down all day.  Unfortunately, today looks about the same although they are projecting 100 mwh.  Not certain what they are doing.

Lots of stuff has been going on since the last fishing report.  Mainly the women’s gathering we held here at the shop this last Saturday.  What a Day!  More on it to follow.  Now to get the fishing reports caught up.

several years  Good time not only fishing, but catching up on what’s happening as well as “remember when?”  Best pattern was the ruby 2, of course, and a few stripping the olive filoplume trailing a tiger tail on a 3 ips sinking leader.

James took Kevin and Phil out on Saturday since Carolyn was helping to entertain 50 plus ladies.  Another good day on the ruby 2 under the big ruby.  Stan was with another long-time customer John and his brother Leo.  John started fishing with Stan in 2006 and just recently built a new home and is now living in the area.  They had a good, fun and WINDY day catching on the size 16 ruby 2 under the ruby ruby.  This was a new experience for Leo but he caught some fish.

Sunday, Mike from Texas spent the better part of the day on the water with Carolyn.  Lots of fish on the ruby 2, or stripping the filoplume.  Mainly fished from the boat ramp up to the fish ladder.

Stan had Ralph and his with Beth fishing Tuesday.  This was on their bucket list of things they wanted to try.  They fish a lot, but have never fly fished.  Yes, another ruby 2 under the big ruby day.  Tough day due to the extreme water fluctuations.

James and Gina took two couples from Pennsylvania out Wednesday.  Dreary, rainy day and the water was dancing all over the place.  The ladies, Delores and Joan went with

Gina.  They got few fish to the boat on a black copperhead midge under a peach egg or stripping the tiger tail.  The guys, Don and Ray were doing pretty good on the same patterns.

Crazy weather.  Three days ago in the 80s.  Today we saw snow!!!  And, all of it has included 90 mph winds…..well it certainly feels that way when you are on the water.  Anyway, we have had some really winds days lately.  After we get out of the deep freeze tomorrow morning, we should hit the low 50s with some sunshine and a little less wind tomorrow.  Tuesday, it into the upper 70s and sunny to party sunny.  Wednesday through Friday we will be 60s and sunshine….no rain until possibly Saturday.  Hope not…that’s our women’s day here at the shop.  The percentage has been moving all over the place for the past week and a half.  Yes, I have been checking it every day.

Generation has been non-stop at 100 mwh the past six days.  Looking at Monday’s projection, if they do what they are projecting, they will shut back the generation to a low one unit around noon the balance of the day.  Cross your fingers!!

Stan on the water last Wednesday with Jeff from here in Missouri.  Pretty good day for Jeff on the size 16 Ruby 2 midge.  We started tying these a size larger for the constantly heavy flow.

a long time.  Slow day, but they did hook up with a few fish stripping the JQ streamer and tiger tail or drifting a pink San Juan worm.  Best of all, they had

Carolyn had JP and his father George on the river for half a day on Friday.  George hooked up with the first fish right away on the ruby 2 under a big ruby.  However, it turned out to be JP’s day for catching most of the fish.  Got off the river early as the weather was threatening all kinds of severe weather.

But, these two persevered and were on the water again on Saturday with Carolyn for another little longer half day.  Good day for both of them.  Maybe George caught the most, but they both did well other than fighting the wind.  Had a hard time finding places to fish where the wind wasn’t blowing you downstream or collapsing your cast.

Some awesome weather for a couple days.  Upper 50s today and lots of sunshine.  Wednesday will hit 75! with sunshine.  Only negative Wednesday might be the wind.  We’ll take it.  Thursday is another bright, warm windy day with temperatures near 80.  Then there’s Friday.  Probably thunderstorms in the morning and maybe into the afternoon.  But temperatures in the upper 60s.  Saturday and Sunday we belly out again with mid 50s Saturday and mid 40s Sunday!.  Back to pretty next week.

Finally shut down the five spillways yesterday.  Instead of 14500 cfs or better, we are now at two units with 6500-7000 cfs running.  What a difference.  Taneycomo dropped from an approximate 711 feet elevation to 706-707′.  We will probably see some level of flow for several more days, but this is certainly better and a little more fisher friendly than with the spillways open.

Stan on the water  last Wednesday with Ethan and Ashley.  Both are fairly new fly fishers and they fished the 8 spillways and 2 units.  Cool, cloudy day with lots of water but both of them caught a few fish on the ruby 2 or lightning bug under the big ruby.

The next day, Thursday, Ethan and Jim fished with Stan.  Only 5 spillways and 3 units going that day.  Wow!  They caught most of their fish on a size larger ruby 2 (16) under the big ruby.  Not a great day, but they got to catch and miss a number of fish.

Cold, dreary Easter Sunday!  Probably see some rain this afternoon.  Monday will be a little warmer….in the 50s…but there is a 60% chance of scattered showers during the day.  Tuesday is warming up into the mid 60s, but again, chances, although less, of showers again.  Wednesday and Thursday look like dry days.  Sunny and 50s Wednesday with 60s and partly sunny Thursday.  Slight chances of showers, at this time, over the weekend.

Still have one gate open and they are running all four generators.  We will probably see at least three to four generators for a while to they can get rid of this last rain fall.

Stan on the water Friday with Terry from Mississippi.  Worked hard for the fish he caught on the lightning bug under the big ruby.  They had 3 generators and five gates opened that day.  Lots of water!  Howard and Richard were out with Carolyn.  Pretty good day on either the ruby 2 or lightning bug under the big ruby.  They found a one place where they were hitting pretty good and fished it till the fish said “uncle”.  Beautiful day on the water, just too much water!!!

Lots of rain yesterday and we have chances for more today and tomorrow, but nothing like we had yesterday.  Mainly occasional showers maybe this afternoon and again tomorrow a.m.  Gorgeous Friday in store for us with lots of sunshine and temperatures in the low 60s.  Unfortunately, showers are in the forecast for the weekend.  At this time, it will not be a significant rainfall….to be continued!

One generator is down at the dam so they opened up five gates low this morning while they repair and get the generator back up.  With all the rain they wanted to run all four generators to keep or get ahead of the inflow.  Anyway, they hope to have the generator fixed to day by 6:00 p.m. when they will shut down the gates and run a full four units.  We might see lots of water for a while…..again, to be continued!

Looks like we are in for a bout of rain tomorrow.  Current forecast is for 2-3 inches tomorrow with temperatures in the low 60s.  Wednesday is upper 50s with possibility of light rain in the afternoon.  Slight chance for rain Thursday, but right now, Friday has some sun peeking out and low 60s.  Right now, the forecast for the weekend is 50/50 as far as rain.

We have seen low generation the past four days!  Tomorrow – and I’ll believe this when I see it – it is supposed to be off until 7:00 p.m.

Dick – 3/21/18

Lots of trips on the water the past few days.  James on the water last Wednesday with Dick from Kansas.  Another good day for Dick on the ruby 2 under with a lightning bug or an apricot pattern.  Kerry, from California, spent the day with Stan.  They too caught on the ruby 2 but under the big ruby.

Thursday, James took Kevin and Fred, out for the day.  Awesome day for these two fly fishers on the ruby 2 under the lightning bug.  Fishing

Carolyn had Jim and his son Andrew in the classroom Thursday for the River Run 2-day fly fishing school.  Worked on all the basic stuff then went to the water and worked on casting.  Friday it was back to the water to work on casting a little then graduation time when you get a fly.  Each of them tied on a ruby 2 and wasn’t long until they were working on landing a fish.  Great introduction to the world of fly fishing.  I warmed Andrew that this is not always the case.  Beginners luck!  One of his first was a nice male bow.

They hadn’t had enough so we went out on a full day guide trip Saturday.  More fish this day, but certainly not as many quality fish as we caught on Friday.  Almost everything was on the ruby 2 under a lightning bug.  Jim also caught a few stripping the holographic green crackleback.  Wonderful day for both of them.

Stan and James had a group out both Saturday and Sunday from Oklahoma.  Stan Rob & Steve the first day and James took Mike and Curt.  They swapped boats the second day.  Two great days for all of them on….you got it…..the ruby 2!  They also caught some on the black copperhead.  Mike and Curt were new fly fishers, but they caught on pretty quickly.  Nice day Saturday, but a bit nippy the second day.  Didn’t stop them, they all had a fun time.

Today will be the coolest day of the week.  Tomorrow in the upper 50s, Thursday the upper 60s and then three days of 70s.  Spring has sprung!

Generation good again today.  Cranked it this morning for 3-4 hours, then back down to around 2000 +/- cfs.  This gives you some more wading places.

Looks like moisture in the air for this evening and early into tomorrow.  Tomorrow’s showers looks like them might be our of here by 8:00-9:00 a.m.  By noon or so, it should be partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the upper 50s.  Tuesday will be the coolest day of the week in the low 50s.  Upper 50s Wednesday and then upper 60s to low 70s into the weekend.  The following week has showers popping up again.  That’s a ways away!

Non-stop generation.  However, it has slowed down some since Thursday afternoon.  Not quite as much flow, but still more in the mornings that is good wading water.  If the projection is correct for Monday, we will see the 35 mwh level which only takes the water up a couple feet or less and this provides several areas where one can wade.

Gina on the water Thursday with Brian from Iowa.  After catching some fish on the ruby 2 under a peach egg and stripping the tiger tail, Brian wanted to work on improving his casting.  Gina took him through the program all the way from the roll cast to throwing the sinking line.

Thursday, Stan took Larry, from Kansas out for a half day trip.  Larry had so much fun, he went out again with Stan on Friday.  Most of the fish were on the ruby 2 under the big ruby.  Two nice, warm days.  Only negative was a little bit of extra wind!

Beautiful weather today.  Lots of sunshine and temperatures on the 50s.  Looking at low 60s tomorrow with lots of sunshine, followed by another sunny days and temperatures in the low 70s.  Friday we are seeing a good chance for showers and low 60s.  Back to sunny over the weekend and 60s.  Monday has showers in the forecast but that’s it until the weekend.  Temperatures in the 50s and 60s.

Still running lots of water.  We are back at power pool level on Table Rock….915 feet.  Not sure if they will shut down the generation or not.  We’ll just have to wait a few days to see what they do.

Stan on the water last Thursday with a couple of his regulars from Illinois, Don and Steve.  Slow start to the trip.  Makes for a long day.  Finally started catching on the ruby 2 under the big ruby

Joe and Tom from Minnesota fish with Stan on Saturday for half a day.  Pretty good day on the ruby 2 under the big ruby or the lightning bug under an orange egg pattern.  Cloudy, but it was a fairly nice day even with the four generators going!  Dana had a couple new fly fishers, Chris and Hector.  I think they were in town for a meeting and wanted to give fly fishing a try.  They had success.  Caught fish on the ruby 2 under the orange egg pattern and the red San Juan worm.

Alaina – 3/11/18

Stan and James both out Sunday.  James had Brent and Alaina.  Ruby 2 was still the pattern for this day.  It was windy and high water, but they caught several fish.  Rob from Kansas was fishing with Stan.  Caught some fish, also on the ruby 2, but it was a pretty slow day.

We are still seeing nice temperatures.  Even with the threat of rain today and tomorrow, temperatures will be in the 50s.  Coolest day over the next seven days looks like Wednesday when it is forecast to be in the mid 40s with a mix of sunshine and clouds.  Then back into the mid 50s Thursday and the beat goes on!

Yes, generation still 24/7.  However, they have started reducing the flow rate.  We are now down to 100 mwh instead of the 200.  Doesn’t help wading much, but boating will be a little easier.   Table Rock is now at 915.84.  Just a little ways from power pool, and will still take several days to get there based on the discharge rate.  No problem……that’s just life in a tailwater.

Almost forgot!!!  We have a few games planned for anyone who wants to join in.  They will be organized with skill levels in mind and prizes for the winners!
