Beautiful weather we have been having.  Little warmer than normal for April, but we’ll take it!  We’re going to see 80 degrees today and tomorrow.  Thursday looks like low 70s and cooler Friday with low 60s.  By the weekend, mid to upper 50s and chances for rain mainly Saturday with slight chances Sunday.  But, back to the 70s next week!

They shut down the spillway gates yesterday morning.  We are now just seeing two generators running which puts the Taneycomo level around 707.5 plus or minus.  Not certain how much longer they will be generating, but know we are getting very close to power pool.

Whole lot of fishing and catching has been going on.  Carolyn on the water last Friday with Mike from Kansas.  Beautiful day and fishing was good for him on the ruby 2 under the big ruby.

Saturday, Dana took Tyler and Jeff out for the day.  Good day for these guys on the ruby 2, beaded red San Juan worm and a Peachy King egg pattern.

Arlan and Rick from Oklahoma, spent a full day on the water with Carolyn Monday.  Beautiful, sunny day….almost HOT!  Very good day for these two guys.  They had just finished the Orvis two-day fly fishing school and wanted to apply their knowledge.  Cerise San Juan worm under the big ruby, or stripping the tiger tail on a 4 ips sinking leader were the patterns

Once we get these temperatures out of the dumpster, it will be nice.  Trees are flowering up!  Forsythia is yellow everywhere!  Looking great.  Just need those warmer days which are just around the corner.  Once we hit Friday, it’s 70s all through next week.  Unfortunately, we do have chances for rain on Thursday.  Oh well, that’s part of Spring!

They are taking an additional generator offline this morning so they will be opening four spillway gates two feet each to release about 3900 cfs to make up for this unit.  This will basically keep our flow about the same as having three generators on.  Not certain if this is just a today thing or if it will take a few days.  We will see……    In any event, we know we will see generation of some kind for several more days.  We are still a foot over power pool.

Wow!  70s one day then lots of lightning, rain, wind and temperatures plummeting to the 40s the next day.  Good news, Sunday will be sunny and in the 50s, Monday still in the 50s and cloudy, but 60s for several days after that.  No more chances for rain until next Thursday when a 60% chance is showing up.  The week after looks like lots of 70s again.

A full two generators running all day today and scheduled to run all day tomorrow.  With this rain we just had, this trend, and maybe more units, will continue running for a while.  We were getting close to power pool, but I’m sure it will come up some.

Lots of fishing and catching this past week.  Carolyn on the water Monday and Tuesday with Joe from Texas.  A couple of good days for Joe.  He had one run where it was a hit or fish every time through this one section.  Needless to say, we took a run back through this section several times.  Best pattern was the ruby 2 under the big ruby.  Darren had a family, Bob, Cindy and their daughter Kali

Don and Steve spend all day Wednesday on the river with Carolyn.  Great day for these two fly fishers from Illinois.  They had projected three units in the early morning, then down to two units for a couple hours, then one units for about five hours.  NOT!  We hit the water with two units going and by the time we did one drift down

the boat ramp bank, we noticed the flow had disappeared.  Upon checking, they had shut down the generators.  Found a honey hole and proceeded to catch a lot of fish, mainly on the ruby two midge under a red tunghead or big ruby.

Keep forgetting to let everyone know that Murphy is back.  Seems he comes back to Taneycomo every March.  He’ll hang around for a few months, but usually by June, he has left the area.  Fortunately, so far he comes back every year.  Good to see him again!

Temperatures have warmed up but we keep getting chances for rain in the area.  Tomorrow and Wednesday will look like 58 and 68 respectively.  No rain in the forecast until Friday but temperatures in the mid 60s.  Next week is all mid to upper 60s but 30% and 40% chances for showers show up here and there during the week.

No change in generation pattern.  The equivalent of three units which is 9700 cfs +/- every day.  With rain in the forecast here and there, we’ll probably no see a change for a while.

Been busy on the water the past week.  Jim out all day last Tuesday with  Malcolm from the St. Louis area.  Good day for this streamer puller mainly on the tiger tail.

Wednesday, Carolyn took Rick and his grandson Oliver out for the afternoon.  Pretty day even with the three units going.  It was neck to neck for a

while between Rick and Oliver, but Rick eventually pulled away.  However, Oliver had the best fish of the day.  He is going to make quite a fishing partner for his grandfather.  Patterns of the day were the big ruby with either a cerise or red San Juan worm dropper.

Chad, from Wyoming, spent half a day Wednesday on the water with Jim.  Fish were not taking much nymphing so they put on the tiger tail and pulled quite a few fish.

Thursday, Hale took his father, Dan, out for the day with Jim.  Hale likes pulling streamers and Dan is fairly new so they stripped the tiger tail and drifter the ruby midge and caught fish.

Beautiful day today we’re having.  Sunshine, very little wind, and temperatures will be in the upper 50!  Looks like more on the horizon.  Even looking at 60s all next week.  Slight chances for rain…..we’ll see.

Sorry, they must have finished the work on the generators as the generators came back on this morning.  Called and they are using three units to run the equivalent of two units so the tailwater is back up 5 feet with about 7000 cfs going.  Table Rock is currently just about a foot above power pool.

Boats on the water Friday.  Tough day mainly due to the wind.  Thought we had had all the wind we were going to get Wednesday and Thursday but it stuck around again on Friday!  Probably missed more fish than we hooked as the waves were so high in places you couldn’t see a take unless they took it to the bottom!  We had a bit higher water level too.  Ran a good three units that day.  Anyway, Jim had Rob out for half a day and they did pretty good early in the day stripping the tiger tail.  Around noon that shut down so they went to the ruby midge and caught a few more.  Carolyn had Carter out for a day.  This young man is

getting started in the fly fishing world so we worked on technique and presentation.  He’s going to be a good fly fisher, quick learner as well as eager to learn.  Fun day mainly on the cerise worm under the big ruby.  Forgot to mention, it was a bit nippy that day due to the extreme wind.

Saturday Jim had a couple of new fly fishers on the water, Glenn and Barb.  Did some instructional work and had them catching fish on the ruby midge and tiger tail.  Dana and Carolyn had a group of guys out for half a day.  Dana had Grady and his grandson, Brett, in his boat and Carolyn had Gerald, Grady’s nephew.  Brett and Gerald are out of California and Grady has a place in Branson.  Fun day for this group of guys who decided they were going fishing

when they all got here.  Dana’s boat was catching on the red San Juan worm, or a Cerise SJ, each dropped under a big ruby 2.  Carolyn’s guy, was catching mainly on the cerise San Juan.  He hadn’t tried stripping, so we rigged up the tiger tail with a holographic green crackleback and caught several stripping this.  Gerald like this!  Much better water and weather than the day before…

FYI.  The Corps will be opening up two spillways today around 3:00 p.m.  Should be around 3900 cfs (what they did the last time).  They need to shut down the generators again for repair work.  Plan right now is to have them off through tonight and into most if not all of tomorrow.  Also know that the road over the dam, highways 165 and 265 will be closed from 8:00 p.m. tonight until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Other than strong winds today and tomorrow and some rain tonight, the weather is really starting to look like March!  It’s about time!  Temperatures through the weekend and into early next week will be in the 50s.  Once we hit mid week, it looks like 60s for at least the rest of the week and into next weekend!  Yeah!  Just in time for Spring!

They continue to run at least 2 generators all day.  They had spillways going for a few days last week and into the weekend while they worked on the generators.  Generators came back on line Monday morning.

Carolyn had Len on the water this past Monday celebrating his 80th birthday.  Glad to say, the fish helped make it a wonderful birthday for him.  He starting hooking fish on the cerise worm as we drifted down toward Lookout Island.

Stopped there to have a piece of birthday cake, but he was then too busy catching fish on the holographic green crackleback trailing the Tiger Tail.  Even caught a few on the Tiger Tail, but it was crackleback hands down.  Fun day for both of us!  Happy Birthday Len and many more!

Even with the two units, folks fishing the outfalls and edges between 5 and 6 are having good days catching fish.  The fish are just ready!

Cold!  That’s the only way one can describe the weather the past two days.  Sounds like we are going to start warming up though.  Tomorrow will be in the upper 30s.  We won’t know how to act!  Wednesday looks sunny and mid 40s.  By Friday, it’s 50s but chances for rain that increase in probability by Saturday. But Saturday is looking like upper 50s, maybe low 60s.  Next several days look more like March…..temperatures somewhere in the 50s.

Heads Up!   If everything goes as planned, the Corps will be shutting down the generators and opening up two of the gates (9 and 10) tomorrow morning.  Looks like they will run roughly the same amount of water this way as we have been seeing with the two generators, maybe less.  They need to do some repair work on the generators, so I’m not certainly how long this will take.  They did not say, but plan on at least one day this way and possibly more.

Boy!  A couple nice days then back into the dumpster!  Mid 30s will be the high today and lots of overcast sky.  Friday has low 50s with Saturday in the mid to upper 40s, but showers moving in for the afternoon and evening.  Temps will take a nose dive then and we’ll see low 30s Sunday and low 20s! Monday.  Shiver!

We are still seeing them use four units to run the equivalent of two units.  Release rate is usually 6700 to 6900 cfs range.  Table Rock Lake is still sitting at 915.5 and Taneycomo is around 707.5 with this flow.

Gina had Wednesday Jim on the water this past Tuesday.  Beautiful day!  Flow was at 6900 cfs, sun was shining and temperatures got into the mid or better 60s.  Fish weren’t consistent with what they took, but they tried enough flies to pull quite a few nice fish out, including this beauty!

Another beautiful day today.  Should be in the upper mid 50s today with lots of sunshine.  60S tomorrow, back to the mid 50s Wednesday then rain possibly on Thursday and temps into the 40s.  Unfortunately, right now, the weekend looks pretty cool.

Still using four units to run the equivalent of two units.  Table Rock is only a half a foot above power pool and they are keeping Taneycomo about 5-6 feet above no generation level.

2/23/19 – Big Brown caught by Paul Crews

Taneycomo holds the new state record brown trout.  It was caught by Paul Crews from Neosho, Missouri this past Saturday.  This beauty was 38 inches long with a 27 inch girth and weighed 34.6 pounds.  Paul caught it on a 1/8 ounce sculpin colored marabou jig.  This brown is part of the triploid Brown Trout the Missouri Department of Conservation started stocking in 2013.  The original plan was to stock a total of 15,000 fish into Taneycomo over a three-year period of 2013, 2014 and 2015.  This picture indicates this was a great addition to our fishery!
