A little nippy these past few mornings.  Tomorrow will be no exception.  Should be in the 30s around 7:00 a.m. and warm up to the upper 40s during the day.  Turkey Day we will get a little warmer start to the morning…mid to upper 30s by 7:00 a.m. then 60 for the high.  Friday and Saturday are both looking like 60s for the high.  Sunday a little cooler, but back into the 60s for the early part of next week.

Non-stop generation for the past four days.  Tomorrow’s projection shows three units on at 7:00 a.m. and running at least three hours, down to two units for an hour then about 2500 cfs for the balance of the day.

Stan on the river last Thursday with Gary and Barry from the Lee’s Summit.  They worked hard and found some fish willing to take the holographic green crackleback.  The midge bite was definitely off.

Friday, Carolyn took Wednesday Jim out for half a day.  Morning started out pretty good on the black copperhead midge.  Tried moving around and using other patterns with little luck.  Went back to our original location and started fishing a size 20 tan scud about 10 inches under a dry and had a fun rest of the trip catching on this.

Matt – 11/20/17

David and his grandson, Matt spent half a day yesterday on the water with Dana.  Fun day for Matt.  This was his first trip and a birthday present from his grandfather.  Matt caught the most and biggest fish.  Of course, after all….it was his birthday!  Ruby 2 under an orange egg pattern was the combo for them.

Temperatures the past several days have been on the cool side.  Shouldn’t complain as it is more normal that we had been having.  Days have maybe hit the mid 50s and with the overcast skies and wind kicking up, it has been nippy!  Looks like the trend for most of this week.  They are saying chances of rain by Wednesday.  Might see low 70s Friday, but overall, temperatures in the 50s.

More off generation than on over the past week.  They had projected low two units for this morning, but we have not seen any generation this morning.  Maybe something this afternoon.

Gina on the water last Tuesday both Bob and Craig.  Pretty good day for this father/son competition.  Dad won with fish to the boat.  It was the black copperhead, and ruby 2 midges.  Did catch a few stripping the JQ streamer.

Thursday, James took Mark out for the first of his two-day booking.  They had a good day on the black copperhead midge, t5he big ugly and stripping the crackleback.

Friday was another good day for Mark, again on the black copperhead midge and the big ugly.  Even caught a pretty brown.

Great weather this weekend.  70s Saturday and 80s today.  Looks like we will get some rain tomorrow with temperatures in the upper 50s.  What a change!  Tuesday and Wednesday will both be in the low 50s and a chance of rain again on Wednesday.  After that, upper 50s to low 60s are the forecast into next week.

No generation during the day this weekend.  They did turn on a low one unit yesterday around 4:00 p.m. and we expect to see the same again today.  Monday shows no generation until 5:00 p.m. with a low two units, then a low three, back to low two and off after 4-5 hours.

in early as they were attending the River Runners Women’s Fly Fishing outing held here over the weekend.  They had a fun day on the black copperhead, P&P and Ruby 2 midges.  Carolyn had a couple new fly fishing ladies on the water, Kris and her friend Beth.  We started with basic casting and worked our way up to catching.  Fun day for these gals and I think they have found a new activity.

Twenty women from the RRWFF Club showed up Friday evening and hit the water hard on Saturday.  Good, fun and beautiful day for all of us.  Fishing was not fast and furious, but everyone hooked up with a fish.  Neat to see this many women on the river having such a great time!

Just finished up several days of WINDY conditions on the river.  Wow!  30-40 mph wind gusts.  It flat blows those drift boats off anchor.  Overcast today with the high forecast to be 63 degrees.  Going to have to go a little to make that.  Thursday is looking great.  High in the low 80s and lots of sunshine and light wind.  Friday has a high in the 70s, maybe a shower in the morning, but light winds and cloudy.  Weekend looks great.  Upper 70s to low 80s and sunshine.  Next week is looking like normal weather for this time of the year.  mid 60s to upper 50s later in the week.  Chance for showers is showing up on Tuesday.

One or two generators running pretty low for two to three hours in the morning if they run anything in the morning.  Then off most of the day and one or two units back on in the late afternoon for a couple hours and back off through the night.  This has been the norm for the past several days.

Dana on the water last Monday for the first of two days with Charles.  Pretty good day for him stripping the pumpkin or blonde cracklebacks on a 1.5 ips sinking leader, and also caught a few stripping the tiger tail.  Fish were hanging mainly in the shallower water.  Marvin and Richard fished with Carolyn and they caught a few fish on the P&P midge or stripping a pumpkin crackleback.  Stan’s guy, Gordon, from Alabama, was also stripping the pumpkin crackleback.   This was one of those windy days and they were blown off anchor at least twice.

Gordon enjoyed the windy day so much, he spent Tuesday back out on the water with Stan again.  This day was even more WINDY!  It was one of those 35-40 mph days.  Hard to detect a strike due to the white caps on the water!  Friday was a tiger tail day…..didn’t touch the crackleback.  Wednesday, Charles spent another half day on the water with Dana.  Not as good as Monday, but they caught fish again on the pumpkin crackleback.  Stan and Carolyn had a group on the water for half a day.  Carolyn took the ladies, Dawn and Ashley, and Stan took the guys, John and Richard.  Understand whichever boat caught the most fish did not have to wash dishes while they were here.  The ladies outfished the guys on the black copperhead midge.  The guys were catching on the pumpkin crackleback.  It was another one of those WINDY days and tough to stay in one place very long.  Wednesday Jim spent a full day on the water with Gina.  They stripped the tiger tail or JQ streamer and also caught some on the ruby 2.

Thursday, Marvin and Richard spent another half day with Carolyn.  It didn’t fish great, but as Richard said “I caught more fish today than I have over the past three”.  It was the black copperhead

Dennis – 10/26/17

midge or ruby 2.  Gina had Dennis and Randy out for the morning.  They were catching on the tiger tail or an olive bugger early in the day.  Later it was a ruby 2 or P&P midge.  Dennis likes dries and caught the best fish of the day on a size 14 Adams.  Made his day.

Terry, from Oklahoma, fished with Stan on Saturday.   They did not start until noon and it was one of the more difficult days Stan has had on the water.  Not every very many opportunities to catch any as they were not biting that well.  Fortunately, he did not get skunked.

Looks like we might get some rain starting tonight.  Some might be severe with the rain continuing into tomorrow morning.  Temperatures are going to take a dive into the upper 50s or low 60s for a high tomorrow.  Back to sunshine late tomorrow.  Monday through the rest of the week looks pretty good with temperatures in the 60s and 70s for highs.  By next weekend, we are seeing 50s again and a chance for rain on Saturday.  Otherwise, the following week looks great with lots of sunshine and mid 60s for highs.

Water has been up and down this past week.  Mostly down, especially in the morning and early afternoon.  Then up for 1 to 3 hours and back off again.

Well, just like the water, fishing has been up and down.  Some days really tough and other days good fishing….especially for this time of the year.  Seeing and hearing of a few really nice browns being caught, especially up around the outlets.

Now, let’s get caught up again.  Last Wednesday, Jim was on the river with Gina.  Fun day, not lots of fish, but enough to keep one happy and interested.  Best pattern was the ruby 2 under and indicator.  Catch of the day was on a Fat Albert with a midge dropper.  Dana was on the water with Eric and Hope from Forsyth.  They are new fly fishers and wanted to learn a little more about fly fishing.  Had some hits, lost a few fish, and caught a few on the lightning bug.

Friday the 13th, Stan took John and Tiffany from Texas out for half a day.  Bite was slow again and he decided to go to 7X and they did catch some fish on the ruby 2 midge after this change.  Easy on that hook set!  Mike and Jan spent half a day with Carolyn.  We found some fish, mainly in one place below the boat ramp, and stayed with it until time to come off the water.  Jan was catching on the ruby 2 midge in shallow water against the bank.  Mike caught several on the holographic green crackleback stripping it cross current in the fast water at the narrows.

Saturday was a little better.  Stan had Glen and Monica from Texas out on the water.  They caught fish on the P&P.  However, they was a period when nothing was hitting anywhere.  Jerry and Kenny from Kansas spent all day on the water with Dana.  Best pattern for them was the P&P with a blood worm dropper.

Sunday seemed to fish even better than Saturday.  Dana had Jeff and Nancy from Colorado out all day.  They had recently fished in Mongolia and wanted to see our fishery.  What a difference I bet!  Good day for them on the P&P or lightning bug with the blood worm dropper.  George and Wilma spent the morning on the water with Carolyn.  This was Wilma’s birthday present even though

her birthday was much earlier this year.  It was actually George’s birthday the next day if I remember correctly.  Anyway, it was Wilma’s day and she caught a beautiful 18 inch rainbow among her many others.  Good day on the black copperhead midge early then the P&P.   Both are fairly new fly fishers, so we mixed things up a bit.  We even caught a fish or two stripping the holographic green crackleback.  This was George’s favorite way to fish.

Good day for Donald and Patricia who fished with Stan Monday.  It was ruby 2 early then the P&P.

Brad and Terry fished with Dana on Tuesday.  Another tough day, but they caught fish on the dark olive soft hackle or the P&P midge with the size 22 blood worm dropper.

Paul – 10/19/17

had a good half day on the P&P and ruby 2.

Again, what a difference a day makes.  Friday, Gary and Bob were again fishing with Stan and Carolyn had Bob’s son, Darrin, and grandson, Colby out for half a day.  Tough!  Can’t say there was any good fly.  We caught a few fish, but it was here and there not very many on any one pattern.  Dana had Dan from St. Peters out and they caught fish on the pumpkin crackleback, ruby 2 and P&P midges.

Melissa – 10/22/17

Sunday fishing was still pretty tough.  Dwan and Robert fished with Stan and caught mainly on the ruby 2.  Dana took a fairly new fly fishing lady, Melissa,out for the morning.  She had fun catching on the black copperhead midge.

It certainly felt good to get out of the boat and stand in the cool water yesterday.  Another hot one today….upper 80s.  Due to some rain coming through tonight and into early tomorrow morning, it will be cool tomorrow, but back into the 70s Monday which will continue through the next week with a few 80s scattered throughout the week.

More and more days with no generation in the morning.  This has been the trend for past seven days.  Yesterday, they opened the equivalent of three units at 1:00 p.m. and ran something for seven hours.  Off again this morning as well as tomorrow.  We’ll see a little generation for an hour or two later in the afternoon.

Fishing is still tough.  We bring more fish to the boats on some days but are really working for them.  Still, and will continue, seeing lots of dead fish in the water.  Back to my “soap box” take a little more time to revive your fish when you release them.

Bob & Mark from Florida on the water with Dana last Sunday.  Not a bad day for them on the P&P or copper dun midges, a #16 brown San Juan worm, or the B-Bug.  They fished from the root wad down to the boat ramp.

Monday, Dana took Ken out for the day.  They worked for the fish they caught that day on the orange egg, ruby 2 and olive soft hackle.

Jim and his father, Tony, fished with Carolyn Tuesday.  Cold, windy, rainy day.  Windy enough we were blown off anchor at least three times.  Did manage to find a few fish on the JQ streamer stripping on a 4 ips sinking leader or drifting a

chartreuse egg pattern.   Nasty as it was, we did have a fun day.  Dana was blowing by us with Richie from Texas.  This was Rickie’s first experience with a fly rod.  What a way to start.  He did well and landed a few fish on the copper dun midge in the Rockin Chair area.  Even Stan was out on a day like this.  He had Jim and his friend, Dave out for the morning.  They too did their best on the copper dun midge.

Mid 80s again today and uppers 80s forecast for tomorrow.  Slight possibility of rain Tuesday with upper 60s (that would be nice), but back into the 70s then 80s Thursday.  80s through the weekend and maybe low to mid 70s for the early part of the following week.  I’m ready for some cooler temperatures!

No generation the past two mornings.  That is also the projection for tomorrow morning.  Nothing until around 1:00 p.m. when it will be a low two units then up to three.  Who knows what the week will bring, but I would guess at least a low flow in the mornings with increases in the early afternoon.  We’ll see….

Saw lots of dead fish in the water yesterday.  Back to my reminder. PLEASE take time to make certain your fish is fully revived before you release it.  Don’t play it any longer than you have to and GET IT BACK INTO THE WATER as quickly as you can after bringing it in.  Best of all, don’t take it out of the water if you can help it.  These fish will continue to be stressed until the lake turns and we get some oxygen back into the lower levels of Table Rock Lake.

ruby 2 and a pink lady egg pattern.  Gina was out that day with Donna and Rock from Illinois.  Donna is getting started fishing and wanted to work on casting and technique as this was her first time to land a trout on a fly rod.  Rick is taking her to Montana in May and she wants to be ready.

They were catching on the ruby 2 under the big ruby, mainly in the area above the boat ramp.  It was one of those low generation mornings, so they stayed in the upper area.

Wednesday, Carolyn took Howard and Richard out for half a day.  It was one of those tough days and the guys pulled a few fish on the ruby 2 and stripping a scuplin pattern.  These good fly fishers worked hard for what few fish they got.  Larry just finished our 2-day Orvis school and wanted to hone his skills, so he took half a day trip with Stan.  Slow day, but the most fish he has ever caught at one time.  Ruby 2 under the big ruby and they floated the full run.

Donna – 10/5/17

Donna still working on her skills so she and Rick spent another half a day on the water Thursday.  This time it was with Carolyn.  Although this time Rick caught the most fish, Donna pulled the largest fish stripping a holographic green crackleback on a sinking leader.  We turned her into a stripper!  Think she is ready for Montana.  Cindy and Craig fished with Stan most of the day.  Ruby 2 and P&P were their best patterns.  Bite was a little slow so they went through on their trip.

Friday, Stan took Patty and Kevin out for half a day.  These fairly new fly fishers had one of the better days on the water, and it was the ruby 2 all day.  Water was on when they put in, but turned off at 9:00 a.m., so Stan kept them in the area above the boat ramp.

Coming to work this morning was beautiful.  This picture doesn’t even do it justice!  However, it was gorgeous and what a shot in the arm to see such a beautiful sun rise.  Nice crisp morning with the temperature in the mid 50s.  Nice weather today and tomorrow.  Tuesday we are looking at slight chances for thunderstorms in the morning with temperature in the mid 80s.  More chances for rain on Wednesday with temperatures staying in the low 80s into the weekend.  Drop in temperatures for next week.  Actually seeing upper 60s and low 70s in that forecast.  Lows will be in the low 50s.

Generation schedule has been spastic over the past seven days.  On most of the morning, then a big spike early afternoon, or off for the morning, then a spike for the afternoon, then off again, or off, up, then down….it’s been interesting.  Life in a tailwater!

Thursday, Stan took Don and his wife Cindy out for half a day.  It was a good day for them.  Cindy caught several fish (said she also caught several other things…trees, rocks, etc.).  Bottom line though, she caught more fish than other things!  P&P was their fly all morning.  No generation but a little windy that day.  Carolyn had three ladies taking the first day of our River Run 2-day fly fishing school.  One of then, Laura, had taken the course with her husband a year ago.  She talked her friend, Alicia and Alicia’s daughter,

the morning the water was off so Gina joined us to take Laura fishing, and Carolyn worked with Hannah and Alicia.   We were able to get the group into the water wading so they would get the experience of wade fishing like they would be doing on their own.  We did manage to catch some fish just below the rebar area on the P&P and black copperhead midges before they decided to turn on the water.  Four generators on the start up which dirtied up the water and made it a little more difficult.  After an hour or so, it was shut back to the equivalent of two units, so fishing was a little easier.  Caught a few fish on a cerise San Juan worm after the water came on.  After it settled down, it was a P&P or ruby 2.  Fun day!  Stan on the water with Kevin from Kansas.  As with the group of ladies, it

Hot out there this past week.  We do have some cooler days ahead.  Lows will be in the mid 50s and highs look like low to mid 80s.  Yeah!  Think the fish will appreciate this.  I know the fishermen will.

Pretty much same old, same old as far as water flow.  Low or no generation early then up to the equivalent of two units around 1:00 p.m. for several hours, then back to low or no generation through the night and into the next day.

Noel and Gian had a good day on the ruby 2.  This was Gian’s first time with a fly rod and he really enjoyed it.  James started the first day of three days on the water with Joe.  Joe recently moved to Missouri and wanted to become familiar with fishing Taneycomo.  I think they accomplished this.  First day was a little slow on the ruby 2, big ruby and a peach

Two long-time friends, Adam and Mark spent Friday on the water with Carolyn.  They lucked into one of the better days.  Mark pulled a beautiful 19 inch rainbow out on a ruby 2 midge.

Weather has been hot, especially for this time of the year, out there the past few days.  Upper 90s through the weekend, upper 80s Monday, mid 80s Tuesday.  Then, we go into the mid to upper 70s through Saturday with slight chances for rain early in the week.  By next weekend and into the following week, it will be low to mid 70s and lots of sunshine.  Sounds like a great way to start Fall.

Water generation the past three days plus today has been non-stop all day.  However, for the early part of the day, usually until noon or even 1:00 p.m., generation has been low (30-50 MWH).  At this level, there are wading opportunities up by the Hatchery or down below the boat ramp.

Just want to remind everyone again about the low dissolved oxygen levels.  Try not to over-play your fish to bring it in and make certain it is well revived before releasing into the water.  Keep it in you net in the water as much as you can.

Mike – 9/10/17

Okay, now to get caught up.  James on the water a week ago this past Sunday with Mike from Kansas.  This was one of those slower than normal days, but Mike did bring in a beautiful 18 inch rainbow on a ruby 2 midge.  He also caught several on the tiger tail.

A week ago this past Tuesday, Gina took a couple of the ladies from the RRWFF Club out for the day.  Good day for them Tuesday on the ruby 2, P&P, lightning bug and Tiger Tail.

Valley – 9/12/17

Fun day and belated birthday celebration for Valley, AND the fish cooperated to help her celebrate.  Wednesday, Valley had to go back to the real world…..work.  So, it was just Paula who fish with Gina.  Wednesday was tough.  Caught fish mainly on the ruby 2.  Carolyn had Jerry on the water that day.  His wife Margaret rode along to enjoy the day and it was a beautiful day.  It was pretty much a ruby 2 day for us too.

Spanky – 9/13/17

Wednesday, Stan’s oldest (in years fishing with him) fisher, Doc, and his friend Terry, were on the water with him for half a day.  Another slow bite day, but they managed to have a fair day…..again, on the ruby 2.  These two always have a fun day no matter what they are doing.

Mitch from Indiana, spent half a day on the water with James last Thursday.   This was Mitch’s first experience catching fish on a fly rod.  Pretty good start using the ruby 2.

guys from the Ozark Fly Fishing Club out of St. Louis, MO. were in town last weekend and a few of them fish with us on Friday and Saturday.  Friday, James had Jeff and Alan.  Pretty good day for them on a lightning bug, ruby 2 and peach egg pattern.  Carolyn had Edward and John out that day.  They had a good day on the ruby 2 midge under a lightning bug.  Edward caught his best fish that day stripping a holographic green crackleback.

Saturday was another good day for everyone.  This day, Mel and Alan were on the water with James and they fished pretty much the same

on the water again with Carolyn and this day Jim filled the second spot in the boat.  Another ruby 2 under the lightning bug.  This was Edward’s day as he landed a nice 20-1/2″ rainbow.

Newly weds (about one year now), Ramona and Bryan spent Monday on the water with Carolyn.  They had a good day on the ruby 2 under an apricot egg pattern, or stripping the tiger tail or holographic green crackleback on 5 or 7 ips sinking leaders.  It was a beautiful day weather wise and the fishing just made it the perfect day.  Bryan has created a monster.
