Beautiful day today.  Lots of sunshine.  Say there are chances for rain tonight.  Wednesday is also showing some chances during the day and into the evening with temperatures in the mid 80s.   Thursday and Friday look dry and Saturday and Sunday are slight chances of rain.  Temperatures are looking more like summer as Friday and Saturday are in the 90s.  Every day next week shows 40% chance for rain!  Guess it’s that time of the year.

The generation schedule has been showing generation coming on by noon or later….NOT.  Today was supposed to be 1:00 p.m. and it came on at 10:00 a.m. followed in an hour with two more units!  This has been the trend for over a week now.  Really can’t count of what the projection schedule says.  Oh well, this too shall pass.

coming on early while we thought we might get in a morning of wade fishing.  Hooking quite a few fish in the Rockin Chair area which came to an end at 10:00 a.m.  Water really dirtied up when they turned on the other two units at 11:00 a.m.  Once it settled down, we pulled several more fish drifting down to the take out.   Ruby 2 only before the generator, then Ruby 2 under the big ruby or pulling a holographic green crackleback after the water settled with the three units.

Weather has been all over the place.  Chances for rain show up and maybe we get a few sprinkles.  Temperatures have been in the 70s many days.  Forecast for today is mid 80s, but I’m not certain we’ll make it.  An unexpected shower is going through right now.  Should be out of here before 1:00 p.m.  Sunday looks like thunderstorms in the morning, and, probably off and on all day!  We’re seeing chances (30-50%) of rain all next week with temperatures in the mid to upper 80s.  Bummer!

Generation was spastic from Monday through Thursday this week.  Projection was one thing and actual was another.  Usually, it was turning on the generators much earlier than the projection.  Yesterday was pretty right on and today it looks like they are going to follow the schedule.

to work on.  In the fast water, mending was a never ending process, and our saying the day was, “no, your other left!”

Pat spent Friday morning on the water with Carolyn.  No generation when we hit the water so the flow was very slow.  Found a nice rock pile and started catching on the ruby 2 under the black copperhead midge.  This worked great until the first generator came on so it was row up to the fish ladder area and heavy up.  Big ruby

with the ruby 2 and we hooked several fish until the second unit came on.  The rest of the trip was definitely slower, but managed to hook a few more before coming off the water.

Great weather!  Today we will see lots of sunshine and temperatures in the upper 70.  More upper 70s through Friday.  Slight chances for showers Wednesday and Friday.  Saturday moves back into the mid 80s and Sunday through early next week will be low 80s.  Chances for showers show up again on Sunday and through the early part of next week.  Boo!  This too will change.

Obviously the SWPA doesn’t know that weekends should be for off water and then run it during the week.  Generators on almost all day both Saturday and Sunday this weekend.  We did have some off water in the mornings a couple days last week.  Wonderful!  Today was supposed to be off until noon or so but that was quickly changed this morning when the horns went off.  Oh well…always say the Monday projections are a crap shoot!

tiger tail, JQ streamer and ruby 2 midge.  So much fun, they went out again on Sunday for half a day.  Another good day on the tiger tail and JQ streamer!  Darren was on the water Sunday with Joe and Kelly from Kansas.  New fly fishers and they got the job done.  It was a bead head scud, ruby 2 midge under the big ruby.

The weather seems to be a little like the water right now.  Chances for rain…well maybe later.  Must say, the chances for rain next week have increased from the 40-50% to 80-90%, so it looks like we might get some rain.  Temperatures will continue to be quite warm.  90s tomorrow, then 80s to high 70s through the balance of the week and into the weekend.  Sunday and Monday are, right now, looking dry.

Last Thursday, we did not see generation until around 2:00 p.m.  On Friday, they kept it off until 11:00 a.m.  However, for the weekend, they cranked up the generators by 7:00 a.m.  Same thing for Monday.  Today, no generation until 1:00 p.m.  How sweet!

Dana on the water last Thursday when the generators were off.  Great day for Rick and his father, Rick.  The fish were hitting just about everything they threw which included the P&P, copperhead, rusty and ruby 2 midges.  Carolyn had Gary and Berry on the water.  Same thing for this group.  Found a pod of fish and just kept hauling them in on the black midge, ruby 2, P&P and stripping a tiger tail.  One dreams of days like this!

Friday, Gary and Berry spent another half day on the water with Carolyn.  Another great day but they turned on 2 units at 11:00 a.m. and another one an hour later.  It was another unbelievable day on the ruby 2 and mini sculpin.  Fish just seemed to be podded up in most, if not all, the places we stopped.

Jerry – 6/4/19

Monday and Tuesday, Jerry and his wife, Cathy spent the mornings fishing with Carolyn.  Fun couple of days.  Lots of fish to the boat.  Jerry took the lead early the first day, but Cathy came back with a vengeance on the second day.  Ruby 2 (of course) was the midge of the day.  Stripping it was mainly the JQ streamer.  Jerry caught this nice bow on the JQ.

Nice, warm day today with a little wind starting up around noon.  According to the weather, we might see some heavy rain later today.  Definitely will see some tomorrow.  After that, looks like upper 70s and low to mid 80s into the weekend.  Sunday, 50% chance for rain showing up again and continues as this chance through most of the next week.  Boo!!!

Spillway gates closed today around 1:00 p.m.  Dropped Taneycomo level by 2 feet, so our tailwater level is now at 709 feet.  Tomorrow’s generation projection shows no generation from midnight to 8:00 a.m. when one unit will come on for 7 hours, then ramped up to three units for 5 hours, back down to two units for two hours, then one the rest of the day.  Fish won’t know what to do with all this fluctuation.  Neither will we!!!  Of course, with the rain projection, this may all change………….

Sunday, Jim, Dana and Carolyn had a group of three brothers.  Two of them brought their  wives.  The other brother brought his daughter.

Mary Key – 5/26/19

Carolyn had Mary Kay and Mike.  Mike had fly fished many, many years ago and this was Mary Kay’s first time with a fly rod.  Fun day of catching and learning for these two on the ruby 2 and a holographic green crackleback.  Mary Kay said their have found their new pass time together.   Dana took Jim and Kim.  They did well and caught fish on the ruby 2 or an orange egg pattern.  Mark and Amy were with Jim.  They fished a hot hare’s ear under the big ruby.

Jim had Cathy from Nebraska on the water Monday.  She had a very good day on the bug eyed bugged or nymphing the baby ruby under the big ruby.  Cathy has been fly fishing a while so she enjoyed learning the stripping technique.

Today, Carolyn took Rod from Kansas out for half a day.  He’s fished with us several time over the past ten years.   Good day for Rod on the ruby 2, Alvin and stripping the JQ streamer.

Can’t believe it….three days in a row with now rain!  Slight chances for rain on Sunday, then again on Wednesday.  Temperatures remain in the high 70s or low 80s through this time.  Next weekend, we are seeing slight chances for rain again.  Boo hiss!

Other than strong winds, the weekend was great.  Lots of sunshine, dry weather, really warm temperatures but lots of WIND!  Forecast calls for heavy rain later today, tonight and into tomorrow morning.  We are crossing our fingers it goes further north.

No chance in the generation pattern.  We are so close to power pool on Table Rock, but the rain forecast will certainly change that.  We’ll just have to see how much we get and then figure out how much longer we will see the flow we are currently experiencing, or maybe even more!

Despite the heavy flow, fishing has been pretty darn good!  Jim on the water last Wednesday with Mark from Iowa.  Mark is an excellent fly flinger and hooked up with lots of fish on the big size 12 ruby with a size 14 hot hare’s ear nymph.  Carolyn had a brand new to fly fishing couple out for the second day of their two-day school and they caught lots of fish on the ruby 2 under the big ruby and even pulled in a couple stripping the holographic green crackleback.  (Had to introduce them to streamer presentation!).

Thursday, Gina took Wednesday Jim out for a while.  Not quite a good this day, but Jim brought in enough to keep him happy on the ruby 2.  Carolyn had a brand new to fly fishing couple out for the second day of their two-day school and they a fun day of learning presentation, playing and catching fish on the ruby 2 under the big ruby and even pulled in a couple stripping the holographic green crackleback.  (Had to introduce them to streamer presentation!).

Grey from Columbia spent half a day Saturday on the water with Jim.  Another good day for him also on the big ruby with the size 14 hot hare’s ear dropper.

Sunday, Dana took one of his regular regulars, Jeff out for half a day.  After the rain we had late Saturday, the fish were a little more picky.  They still had a fun day, and caught several on an orange egg pattern, lightning bug or a white minor jig.  Carolyn had another student working on his second day of school so they hit the water and caught fish on the ruby 2 under the big ruby nymph-style presentation.  This was a bit slower than previous days.  However, when it was time for him to work on streamer presentation, first cast was a fish.  Yesterday was certain a better streamer day than midges.  He was throwing a 5 ips sinking leader with the JQ streamer trailed with a holographic green crackleback.  He definitely likes this technique.  Caught fish on either fly.

Wow!  Two days of sunshine!  Don’t know how to act.  Slight chances for more rain tomorrow and Wednesday, but by Thursday it looks like more sunshine and temperatures in the 80s for both Thursday and Friday.  Saturday looks s little like rain, but back to sunshine Sunday.  We just need a couple weeks of no rain!

Still running around 20,000 cfs of water at Table Rock Dam.  Three generators and five spillways open about a foot.  I think we will see this for at least another week…..of course, depending on whether we get more rain.

Jim on the water Friday with Steve out of Texas.  They had a good day stripping a size 6 tiger tail.  Otherwise, it was the ruby, hot hare’s ear or a red San Juan.  Carolyn had a pretty new couple on the water, Brian and Michal.  They had not yet broken in their fly rods.  We fixed that!  They both caught fish on either a peachy or clown egg pattern under the big ruby, or a red San Juan worm.  I think Michal caught one stripping a holographic green crackleback.  Fun day learning and catching!

Janice – 5/12/19

Sunday, the Mother’s Day Gods were smiling down on Janice.  Jerry wanted his friend Janice to get started fishing, so he booked a half a day with Carolyn.  This was Janice’s first time with a fly rod and we were not real excited about the 20,000 cfs of water.  However, like I said, the Mother’s Day Gods were with her.  She caught her first fish on a ruby 2 under the big ruby, plus several others, and even caught some stripping a tiger tail.  Another fun day of learning and catching!  Plus, it was a gorgeous day.  Lots of sunshine!

We have had a few really nice days, but today looks WET!  Like we need that  There are slight chances for rain tomorrow with temperatures in the mid 60s.  Friday looks great.  Upper 60s and dry but overcast.  Saturday more chances of rain, but Sunday through Wednesday….at least for right now…..all look dry and 70s.  Cross your fingers.  We need to dry out.

Well, when Table Rock hit 920 feet, on came some more spillways.  Once it got below 920, they were shut down, but we still have five open at a foot each to compensate for the down generator.

Due to rain chances earlier this week, we cancelled a few trips, but Jim was able to squeak in a trip Sunday with Mike from Lee’s Summit.  Hadn’t seen him for a while so it was good to get him back on the water.  Good day for him on a size 6 Tiger Tail, the hot hare’s ear and a big ruby.  Fish were laid up in their normal high water places.

Started a fly of the week program.  This week’s pattern is the big ruby.  Come on in and get you free fly of the week!

Some descent weather before the rains came.  Nice days in the 70s.  However, on Tuesday, the sky opened up.  Today it will be in the upper 60s and overcast all day with chances of showers later today.  Friday and Saturday are both showing chances for showers and temps in the low 70s.  Sunday and Monday are promising…party sunny and upper 70s.  Tuesday and Wednesday are warm but chances for showers again!  Think it is going to be hit or miss for a little while.

Yes, five spillways gates were opened up yesterday afternoon at a foot each for a total discharge from these gates of 5100 cfs.  One of the generators is off-line so this will make up for that generator.  They are also running the remaining three generators at around 9900 cfs.  This gives us a total of 15000 cfs, or the equivalent of all four generators running full board.  Table Rock is currently 2 3/4′ above Power Pool.  (Table Rock power pool level increases to 916′ May 1 each year).  Unfortunately, it is still rising.
