Beautiful day today.  Right now the temperature is 53 degrees and it is clear and sunny.  Looks like we might have a couple more pretty nice days ahead of us.  Tomorrow and Friday should also be in the 50s with sunshine.  Saturday is cooling off into the mid 40s and I understand that Sunday night we will see some type of precipitation which could even be light snow.  However, with the temperatures I am currently seeing, I would not bet on snow.  However, either rain or snow Sunday evening into Monday and temperatures in the low 40s to upper 30s.  Tuesday turns back to sunshine with low 40s.  Wednesday into the weekend will see mid to upper 40s.

The spillways was shut down over the weekend (Saturday morning) and are still off.  For most of this week, we have only seen the equivalent of two units.  This puts the area about 5 feet over no generation levels.  As of December 1, the desired power pool dropped to 915 feet.  Currently, Table Rock is sitting at 916.6 feet so we are almost at power pool.

Dissolved oxygen level on Taneycomo is great.  Most recent value was just a little above 8 milligrams per liter.  Happy fish!

Weird weather.  Cold one day with rain, warm the next day with rain.  However, I think the rain is clearing out of here right now.  It’s 9:15 a.m. and the rain has stopped.  Plus, our local forecast is showing the sun starting to peek through by 10:00 a.m. and full sunshine around noon!  And, the temperatures will be in the mid to upper 60s.  Unfortunately, back to cooler tomorrow with low 40s.  Then Monday we are looking at upper 40s and into the 50s through Thursday.

Generation pattern has been the equivalent of two units for the past several days.  They have varied up and down just a little during the day.  Unfortunately, they have opened up two spillways this morning and the level of Taneycomo is up to 710 feet.  Not certain how long these will be open.

Dale – 11/27/19 – 20″ Rainbow

Jason, who went out with Dana for half a day.  They were catching on the ruby 2, and red or cerise San Juan worms.  Gina’s guy, Dale, a regular, regular, had a wonderful day, on the ruby 2 under a cerise San Juan or an olive brown beadhead scud under the cerise San Juan.  Included a nice 20 inch rainbow!

We have some great sales going on at the shop.  Better get by and check them out!

What a gorgeous day today!  Warm and lots of sunshine.  Enjoy while we can.  Tomorrow will be in the upper 60s and mostly cloudy.  Looks like rain showers moving in tomorrow evening then clearing up as drier air moves in bringing us gusty winds.  Wednesday will be low 50s and some sunshine.  Thanksgiving day will be a bummer.  Low 40s and probably rain off and on all day.  Unfortunately, Friday looks like a repeat of Thursday, but a little warmer….mid to upper 50s.  Saturday will be mid 60s and possibly rain again.

Generation pattern for tomorrow shows a decrease in the flows we have been having.  So far we have been seeing the equivalent of two to three units mixed during the day.  Tomorrow we will see the equivalent of  two units all day.

Dawain – 11/23/19

Dawain and his son, Mason, spent half a day on the water Saturday with Gina.  They had a pretty darn good day despite the 7000-8000 cfs of generation.

Mason – 11/23/19

Best patterns were the cerise worm with a size 16 Ruby 2 dropper or the worm with a tan scud dropper.   Darren has Steve and Forrest out for half a day and they had a pretty tough day.  Think the only pattern they hooked anything on was the cerise San Juan worm.

Going to see some cooler weather into this weekend.  Temperatures on the mid to upper 40s Friday and Saturday.  Upper 50s Sunday and sunshine.  Monday will be the best day with temperatures in the mid to upper 60s and sunshine.   Tuesday will also be in the mid to upper 60s but slight chances for rain pop up late in the day.  Wednesday through Friday will be upper 50s.  Slight changes for more rain from Wednesday into next weekend.

Spillway gates closed last week and we are now seeing the equivalent of not quite two generators.  This raises the water level 4-5 feet with somewhere between 6500-7200 cfs.  Much better than we have been having.  Let’s hope it stays this way as we are below normal power pool.

Dana on the water this last Thursday with Don out of Texas.  Don has been fishing with us for a while, and as always, he had a wonderful half day on the water with the cerise or red San Juan worms.  Had so much fun he is going out again on Saturday.

Positive note….the sun is out today!  However, it was 30 degrees when I looked at the temperature earlier this morning!  Looks like today will hit the lower 60s and be sunny all day.  Monday through Wednesday will see 60s, but rain chances are creeping in Wednesday and we will see a cool down to upper 40s Thursday and Friday.  Sunny Friday and Saturday with low to mid 50s with 60 on Sunday.

Still running the equivalent of three units and have five spillways open.  Lots of water puts the tailwater level at 711 feet, or 9 feet above normal no generation level.   I believe the same pattern will hold for Monday.

Carolyn on the water last Monday with Westley, from Texas.  We had the equivalent of 2 units and the 5 spillways that day and fishing was tough.  We managed to find and land several fish with the cerise San Juan worm under the big ruby.  We tried stripping the JQ with no success.

Tuesday, Gina took Robert out for half a day.  Not only did they had the 5 spillways and 2 units, but it was overcast and rainy.  Managed to catch a few on the pink San Juan and a ruby 2 midge.

Looks like we might be getting a run of pretty cool….or even cold….weather.  Today looks like one of the best days for the next week.  Tomorrow will be cool and rain moving in late in the day.  Wednesday looks like rain.  I even saw some low 30s for early morning temperatures!

The equivalent of a low two units running but they are supplementing it with five spillways (about 5000 cfs) open about a foot.  Understand it is to put some oxygen into the water.  Good idea!  Lots less expensive than injecting liquid oxygen.

Unfortunately, the gates are putting the level at 708-709 feet elevation.  Definitely impossible

Fly Fishers in the Kansas City area out for half a day.  Dana had Dick and Ron and they caught some fish on the red San Juan worm.  Gina’s guys, Chris and Pete had a pretty good day on the pink San Juan in the morning and a beadhead tan scud in the afternoon.  Fun bunch of guys!

Cold and wet!  Some rain during October, but these temperatures!!  High in the low to mid 50s.  Rain looks like it will stay with us through most of Saturday.  By Sunday, however, we get a break.  Mid to upper 60s, but then, back to the 50s and even 40s after Monday.  Heard the weatherman say this morning that we might see freezing one of the upcoming nights.

Generation has been a little different over the past few days.   The equivalent of a low two units Wednesday and they turned it off from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  Ran a low two yesterday, but again today, they turned it off and it will be off until probably 4:00 p.m.  No idea of what they will do over the weekend!

Lots of trips on the water the past two weeks and lots of nice, quality fish in the 15-18 inch range.  The only down side was the wind.  We had three days of 30 mph plus wind gusts and some days, even 40 mph.  The fish were having to chase the flies!

Meredith and Chester had such a good time on their first day, they had to go out again with Carolyn on the 15th.  An even better day for them that day.  Hopefully, Meredith will send some of the pictures he took of their nice fish and I’ll post them here.  Think the main bite was on either the cerise or red San Juan worms.

Don – 10/16/19

Wednesday, 10/16, Gina took Don out for half a day.  Good day for them on the red and pink San Juan worms, the big ruby and a few on the lightning bug.  Jim had Jim on the water that day and they had a good day too.  It was the lightning bug that made the day for them.

Jan and Mike from Oklahoma spent all day Thursday on the water with Carolyn.  They had a good day fishing the red, pink and even white San Juan worms.

Sunday, Dana took Charlie out for half a day.  Charlie is not living in the Springfield area and wanted to learn the river.  So, they spent the day catching on the red or cerise beaded San Juan worms and learning the river.  Carolyn had a couple regulars from the Kansas City area, Gary and Barry, on the water for half a day.  Yep!  Good day for these guys on the red and cerise San Juan worms.

all day again and they had a really good day on the red and cerise San Juans.   Gotta tell you the cool thing about these two.  Mike lost his sight a little over ten years ago and they are both still very active.  Mike, of course, prefers to pull streamers as he can feel the take.  He had a great cast before, so casting is no problem for him.  Unfortunately, when the fish are mainly hitting nymph-style presentation, he gets yelled at a lot….”Mike, set!”  Fun day!  Darren had John out, also for a full day.  We all must be nuts to spent all day on the water in the wind!!!  They had a good day on a #14 scud, the big tungsten beaded red San Juan and a size 16 pink San Juan.  Jim blew down the river with Ken   Unfortunately, Ken is fairly new so there was some instruction going on.  They were catching on the big ruby and red San Juan.  We were all looking for a finding a few places where we could get out of the wind.  And when we did, good fishing.

On Tuesday, Gina took Jim out for the day.  Another wonder, WINDY day.  When the fish could catch them they were hitting on the red San Juan under the big ruby and even caught a few stripping the tiger tail and the crackleback.  Jim has been out with us several other time and has fished with both Jim and Stan in the past.  Jerry and Kenny were on the water Tuesday with Jim.  Jim’s comment “Ungodly wind”.  They were catching on the ruby with a lightning bug dropper.  Chip and Richard were out all day with Carolyn.  Chip’s third trip with her and Richard’s first time fly fishing.  What a way to get started.  They both did pretty good the first day on the red and cerise San Juans.

Beautiful Bow!

Weather is looking pretty normal….finally!  Mid 70s and sunny tomorrow then a mix of 60s and some low 70s through next week.  Slight chance for showers next Thursday and Friday, but right now, nice over next weekend.

Generation schedule for the past several days has been no generation late at night until around 6:00 a.m. the next morning, then the equivalent of a low two units all day.

Monday was the beginning of a new week.  Meredith and Chester spent all day on the water with Carolyn.  I had called them the day before and warned them of the bad fishing.  When they showed up on Monday, they said they had talked to the fish Gods.  Must have as it was a very good day for these two guys on the red and cerise San Juan worms and a size 16 Lightning Bug.  Jim was on the water with Grey and his son Tyler.  They had a good day on the ruby midge and Lightning Bug.

Woke up to 33 degrees Saturday morning!  Whoa!  Once it warms up, it has been very nice the past two days.  Much better than the 90+ temperature we have been having.  With all the rain we received this past week, Table Rock Lake came up two feet.  It is currently a little over 917 feet.  They opened up three spillways day before yesterday at a foot each.  This is in addition to the equivalent of three generators they are running.  Scheduled to be the same tomorrow.  We’ll just have to wait and see what the rest of this coming week will hold.

Last Tuesday, Carolyn took Rick and Vic out for half a day.  Good day for these two good fly fishers on the Red or Cerise San Juan worms.  Gina took Roger and Millie out for half a day and they too were catching on the Red and Cerise San Juan worms.

Wednesday, Carolyn had one of our long-time fishers, Terry from Oklahoma on the water.  Very good day for Terry mainly on the Cerise San Juan and a dark roe egg pattern.  Darren had Joe  out of California out for half a day.  They were catching on a size 16 scud and a pink San Juan worm.  Jim’s guy, Rod, was catching on a scud and a red San Juan worm.  They were out for a full day and when four units came on around 2:00, the water trashed up and fishing went south.  Fish caught were nice, solid ones!

on Thursday.  Another good time for them on the pink San Juan worm, various red midges and did a little stripping of the JQ at Lookout Island.  Mike from Texas, spent a full day on the water with Darren.  They were catching on an orange egg pattern, a scud, and the Cerise worm.  They best the rain….by and inch!  Doug wanted to get Carol started fly fishing, so they spent half a day with Carolyn.  She got her roll cast down, mending, getting a good drift and even set the hook on a few fish but we never got them to the

net!  Think she likes it as she said, “I’ll do this again!”  It was then up to Doug to get the fish to the net for the rest of the trip.  Best pattern was the dark roe egg pattern.

When summer stopped, it stopped!!  Woke up this morning to 40 degrees.  Lots of rain all last night in through early morning.  Looked at the lake total and so far, they are recording 3 inches.  Have heard reports of up to 8 inches in some areas.  Nice and sunny now with the temperature at 46 degrees.  Might hit low 50s today.  Saturday should be mid 60s and Sunday through Tuesday, low 70s.  Low to mid 70s into next weekend.  See some rain by next Sunday.

Not certain what we are going to see in generation flow.  Hear they are cracking two gates by one foot, but they should not exceed typical power generation releases.  Typical?

Lots of fishing the past several days.  A week ago Thursday. Darren took Ron and Marlene out for half a day.  This was Marlene’s first try at fly fishing and she did well.  They landed fish on the pink San Juan worm under the red tungsten bead San Juan.  Carolyn had Gary and Jim out for half a day.  They were catching on the red San Juan worm.
