Perfect Days!

Thursday, September 8th, 2022

Sunny days with temperatures in the 80s.  Forecast to be in the 70s Sunday and Monday then back into the 80s.  Light breeze and low generation.  What more could you ask?

They continue to run low (17 mwh) during the morning hours.  Ramping up toe three or four units for a few hours in the afternoon.  Over the weekends, it has been low all day.

Darren and Jim on the water with a group last Saturday.  Darren had Greg and Josh.  Fairly new fly fishers who caught some fish on a double scud rig.  Jim’s guys, Allen and Ryan were also pretty new and also caught some fish on the black midge or stripping a JQ streamer.

Dan – 9/4/22

Sunday, Dana took Dan and Kevin out for half a day.  They had a good day on the black

Kevin – 9/4/22

copperhead midge under the big ruby.

Due to the low flow, they mainly fished above the boat ramp.

Phil – 9/7/22

Phil and Bob fished with Dana

Bob – 9/7/22

Wednesday.  It was another good day on black copperhead midge then the ruby 2 and orange egg.  Carolyn had one of our long-time

Don – 9/7/22

regulars, Don from Illinois.  Good day for Don on the black copperhead midge under the big ruby.

Another long-time regulars day on Thursday.  Ron and Kathy from Louisiana spent half a day on the water with Carolyn.  We worked for them, but had a good

Kathy – 9/8/22

day on….yep, the black copperhead midge under the big ruby.  Did bring in a few on the ruby 2, but it was a black copperhead day.

Lots of New Fly Fishers!

Thursday, September 1st, 2022

Looks like mild temperatures for the coming week.  Slight chances of rain Friday and Monday.  But mid 80s are the forecast.

They continue to have low water during the morning hours.  Over the weekend again, it was low all day both days.  This trend will probably continue as we are pretty low in Table Rock.

Carolyn had Jessica and Brent from Oklahoma on the water last Monday.  Brent has fly fished but Jessica is brand new.  We worked on skills a little before we drifted the banks.  Best patterns were the black copperhead midge and an orange egg pattern.

Tuesday, Dana took Alisha and Chase out for half a day.  Chase has been fly fishing, but this was Alisha’s second time.  Again, the water was low during the morning, so they stayed above the boat ramp.  Caught fish on the ruby 2 and black copperhead midges under the big ruby.

John and his friend Delmar fished with Carolyn Wednesday.  Neither really fished much but they wanted to try their hand at fly fishing.  It was another orange egg pattern day.

Beautiful Weather!

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2022

And more days in the 80s.  Slight warm up over the weekend….low9 90s, but back into the 80s through next week.

We continue to see low water during the morning hours.  This weekend it was low all weekend as well as Monday.  Today, they turned it up at 1:00.

Dana on the water Sunday with Carlyn and her father Jerry.  Pretty good day for them on the black copperhead and ruby 2 midges.  Also caught some on an orange egg pattern.  Low water so they stayed around the boat ramp area.

Lots Of Low Water During The Morning Hours

Sunday, August 21st, 2022

Weather is definitely much cooler.  Temperatures in the 80s for most of the coming week.  Possibly low 90s by the weekend.  No rain in the forecast until the following week.

Low on unit every morning.  Ramping up to three units by 1:00 or 2:00 p.m.  Low one unit all day yesterday, today and projected for tomorrow.

Darren out a week ago this past Thursday and Friday with Jim and his friend David.  They had a couple good days on a double sow/scud rig and soft hackles.  Several nice fish.

The following Saturday, Darren had Jason and Jennifer, from Texas on the water.  Brand new fly fishers had a fun day on the double scud rig and soft hackles.

Carolyn out last Monday with Tonya and Jeremy.  They moved to Tennessee and heard there was fly fishing there so they came to learn a little about fly fishing.  Fun day wading on the gravel bar across from the boat ramp.  Caught a few fish on the black copperhead midge.

Tuesday, Darren had Mike out for half a day.  Tough day.  Fished a black biot midge and soft hackles.  Carolyn had a couple who had

David – 8/16/22

taken the two-day fly fishing school earlier in the year.  They came back for a refresher

Billye – 8/16/22

and had a fun time catching on a golden variant sculpin, a tiger tail and a soft hackle.

Thursday, Darren took Daniel from Michigan out for

Dan – 8/18/22

a half day trip.  It was another double scud rig and soft hackles day.  Dana and Carolyn had a group from Louisiana.  Dana had Ashley and Ryan.  They

Joe – 8/18/22

were catching on the Ruby 2.  Carolyn had Joe and Renee and they were catching on the black copperhead midge under a lightning bug.  Everyone a new fly fisher and they all did very well.

Friday and Saturday, Carolyn had Dean, on the water for a couple half days.  He just recently returned from Alaska where he spent three weeks fishing!  Think he likes to fish.  We didn’t catching anything the size of the fish he was catching up there, but managed to get a few fish to the net on an egg pattern Friday.

Dean – 8/19/22

Saturday was a mixed bag of a few on the egg, then a few on a black copperhead midge.  Some hits stripping.  Nothing consistent.  Was a beautiful weekend!

TC & Timber – 8/20/22

Darren was on the water with a father/son combo on their first fly fishing experience.  The best pattern was the soft hackle.  Fun day for everyone!

Beautiful Weather!

Thursday, August 11th, 2022

Great days on the water.  Temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s.  Looks like this trend will continue for a few more days.  Possible exception is Sunday when the forecast says upper 90s.  Otherwise, Mid 90s and 80s on past Sunday.

Generation pattern continues to be a very low to low one unit until around 1:00 p.m. when they fire up 3 units for five to six hours.  Then back to the low one for the balance of the evening.

Fishing has been up and down.  Talking to several of the fishers getting out and wading during the morning low flow, they are having days when they work hard for three or four fish and other days it’s a great day.  We had students wading Sunday and it was a great day for them for a couple hours stripping the golden variant sculpin pattern.

Chip holding Addie’s fish – 8/9/22

Chip – 8/9/22

Darren on the water Tuesday with Chip and his daughter Addie.  Wonderful day for them on some #18 gray scuds.  Addie caught her first trout on a fly rod.  She had several hits and misses, and  finally got one in!

Yesterday Jim took two young men, Will and Sam, out for the morning to get them started fly fishing.  Good day for them.  They learned a lot, had some fish on…and some fish off.  Got enough technique that they were out again fishing on their own.

Today, Jim took out their parents, Greg and Vicki.  Good day for them and I think Mom might get taken out for dinner tonight as she had the big fish of the two days!  JQ streamer and root beer midge.

Darren had a good first day of his two day trips with Jim from Arkansas.  Caught some nice fish on a double sow bug/scud rig.

Got A Little Rain!

Sunday, July 31st, 2022

We have had some rain.  Not a lot, but at least enough to cool things down for a few days.  Mid 80s today, low 90s tomorrow, but then it will start moving up into the mid to upper 90s for a while.

Very lot generation yesterday and again today.  Monday morning will see low generation until 1:00 p.m. when they will crank it up to three units for six hours.  Then, back to a low one.

Dana out last Wednesday with Brent and hit son Blake.  Brand new fly fishers did an instructional wade trip.  Unfortunately, the fish were not real cooperative that day as they did not bring one to the net.

Thursday, Dana book Brandon out for half a day.  Another slow day but they had fish on and to the net on the copperhead black midge and cerise San Juan Worm.  Roger and Cory from Texas fished with

Cory – 7/28/22

Carolyn.  These brand new fly fishers had a good day on the black copperhead and ruby 2 midges, and stripping the holographic green crackleback trailing the tiger tail.

Friday we had a two-boat group from Iowa on the river.  Another group of brand new fly fishers.  Jim book Logan and Luke.  These guys caught some fish on the JQ streamer.  Dana’s boat had Darin and Dee.  They were also fishing the JQ streamer.

Bill – 7/20/22

Carolyn had Bill from Nebraska on the river for an instructional trip.  He caught his first fish on a fly rod on a black copperhead midge.

Mike – 7/30/22

Neither rain nor ? will keep some people off the river.  Darren took Mike and his son, Mike out Saturday.  They caught a few on the

Son, Mike – 7/30/22

black copperhead and wine zebra midges.

Low Generation Every Morning!

Tuesday, July 26th, 2022

Well, another 100 degree day.  However, according to the forecasts, we should start seeing a drop in temperatures over the next week.  As a matter of face, I see 80s in the forecast for Friday and Saturday!  I am also seeing some chances of rain starting Thursday and running through Sunday.  50-60% chances!

So far, they have continued to run low generation during the morning hours.  Cranking up the generation around 1:00-2:00 p.m.  After that, it is two or usually three units until late in the day, when they take it back to a low one unit.

Since more people are wade fishing with the lower generation during the morning hours, we are hearing good feedback from customers on good numbers of fish as well as nice quality and size.  Let’s hope they keep this flow going for a while.

Jim on the water last Friday with Tony and son, Dominic.  Good day for them on a size 8 JQ streamer and a #14 hot hare’s ear.

Sunday, Dana took Summit and Daryn out for the morning.  New fly fishers, so he worked with them on skills for a little before they hit the water.  Caught fish on the ruby 2.

David and daughter, Claire, from Texas, spent Monday morning on the water with Darren.  These folks were also new to fly fishing.  The got several fish to the boat on $16 scuds and the ruby 2.

Long Run Of 100 Degree Days!

Tuesday, July 19th, 2022

Looks like we are in for a week of 100 degree days.  Nothing less than that shows up until next Thursday when they are forecasting upper 90s and slight chances or rain!  Whew!  No full day trips for a while.

Still seeing low (and wadeable) water during the morning hours.  Ramping up to two or three units at noon or after.

Dana on the water last Tuesday with Justin and his 9 year old son, Tanner.  Good day for them on the lightning bug and black copperhead midge.

Wednesday, Dana and Darren had a two boat trip for a group of guys from Texas.  Darren took Jacob and Elijah and they were catching on the lightning bug, gray scuds and the lil rusty midge.  Dana had Jay catching on the lightning bug, ruby 2 and cerise San Juan worm.  Since the water was low during the morning hours, everyone stayed above the boat ramp.  These guys were mainly used to salt water fishing but they handled the trout fishing just fine!

Another two boat trip for Dana and Darren on Thursday.  Darren took Mike, and Dana had Suzanne and Janice.  Darren’s guys had a good day on the lightning bug, a UV scud and the lil rusty midge.  Dana had his ladies fishing the ruby 2 midge.

Jim had a boat full on Friday.  One of Jim’s long-time fishers, Carmen brought Ruby and Jeff along for the ride.  They all caught fish on the JQ streamer and Shannon’s Hot Hare’s ear nymph.

Saturday, Darren took Greg, Carson and one other guy on a wade trip.  All fairly new fly fishers and they had a good day on scuds, a mini sculpin and the tiger tail with a holographic green crackleback trailer.  Jim was out again and had a couple new fly fishers, James and Angie.  He worked with them on casting and other necessary techniques so they could catch some fish on the JQ streamer or drifting a scud.

Mark and Bill fished with Dana Sunday.  They were catching on the black copperhead midge.  Jared and Kaycee took an instructional trip with Carolyn.  She worked mainly with Kaycee on her roll cast, regular cast and shooting line.  After a few hours of this, we decided to catch a few fish.  Really foggy that day, but when we found an opening in the fog, it was the lightning bug!

Much Needed Heat Relief!

Tuesday, July 12th, 2022

It has been HOT!  Think I said that before.  Anyway, today we are in the upper 80s.  Forecast was for lower 90s so this is even better.  Looks like a couple more cooler days (low 90s) then mid to upper 90s into the weekend.  Don’t see 100s until late next weekend.

No change in generation schedule.  Low one generator during the morning hours, then up to two or three by noon or 1:00 p.m.

Vinney – 7/8/22

Lots of fun days on the water.  Last Friday. Carolyn took Beebe and his grandson, Vinney out for 1/2 a day.  Fun day on the ruby 2 (of course) and the black copperhead midges and a cerise San Juan worm.  Dana was on the water with Claus from Texas.  They had a good day on the cerise San Juan worm.  Darren had started

Chris w/fish & friend Scott – 7/8/22

out early as we had a full day with Chris and his friend Scott.  Great day for these two guys on the Sir Camelot and rusty midges, and scuds all under the big ruby.  As a matter of fact, they went out again on Sunday and did it again!

Saturday was a really fun day.  Grandfather John, his daughter, Darcey, two grandsons, Graham and Porter, and their fathers, Chris and Porter. spent the morning with Dana, Darren and Carolyn.

Jon – 7/9/22

What a hoot when one of the grandsons would hook up!  Carolyn had Jon and Darcey fishing the lightning bug or black copperhead midges under the big ruby.  Darcey lost a 20+ incher right at the net.  Water was running and she had to play it quite a

Graham – 7/9/22

while…..just long enough.  Dana had Chris and Graham on the ruby 2 and cerise San Juan worm.  Porter and Tyler were fishing the lightning bug, a scud and a rusty midge with Darren.  Porter brought the first fish to the net and there was lots of hooting and hollering going on.

Dana had Billy from Illinois on the water

Billy – 7/11/22

for a half day Sunday.  Slow this day but they caught some on the lightning bug and black copperhead midge.  Monday was a whole nother story.  Very good day on the lightning bug and stripping the JQ streamer.  Ryan and Brandon from Iowa spend half a day on the water with Darren Monday.  They both had a very good day on the lightning bug, rusty midge and scuds.

Fishing Has Been Good to Very Good!

Thursday, July 7th, 2022

Sorry for the long lag since the last fishing report.  Had major problem with computer….hard drive.  Had to replace it.  New hard drive.  Working at retrieving lost information, but back in business!

A word for weather right now is…..HOT!  100 degree days make for a shade seeking outing when you are on the water.  Expecting 100+ again today, then upper 90s for a few days and possibly 100 again by next Monday.  No significant signs of rain in the forecast.

For several days now we have had low generation (one unit up and down) during the morning hours.  Around noon or 1:00 pm., they turn on either two or three units.  Run those for several hours then shut it back to one unit for the rest of the night into the next day.  Fortunately, this has allowed wade fishing in some of the upper areas.

Dana on the water a week ago last Saturday (6/25)  for a half day with Roy and his girlfriend Amy.  This was Amy’s first time fly fishing and she likes it.  They fished above the boats ramp area as the water was pretty low and caught fish on the black copperhead midge.

Monday before this past Monday, Carolyn had Debbie and Susan on the water for a full day.  Fun day!  Caught fish on most everything, ruby 2, black copperhead midge, holographic green crackleback, big ruby, lightning bug.

Randy and Anna fished a half day with Carolyn a week ago Tuesday.  Good day on the rusty midge under the big ruby.

Gina and Carolyn on the water last Wednesday with Jan, Pete, Anne and Leon.  Gina started out with the ladies and Carolyn had the gentlemen.  Low, slow water so we fished the area above and below the boat ramp.  Anne, Jan and Pete have fly fished before but this was Leon’s first time.  Anne and Leon started out with Gina and, of course, he was the first one to get a fished to the boat….not only one but a few more.  He was ‘top dog’ for the day.  Catching on a black copperhead midge under the big ruby.  We had to work for fish that day, but everyone caught fish and had a good time!  Fun day!

Marty and Devera from Texas fished with Dana last Saturday.  One of those good days on the ruby 2 or black copperhead midges.

John, Jr. – 7/3/22

Sunday, Dana has John, Sr. and John, Jr. out for the morning.  This was a really good day on

John, Sr. – 07/3/22

the ruby 2 midge.  Stayed around boat ramp as there was no generation!  Meanwhile, Carolyn had Ron and Debbie on the water.  A really

Debbie – 7/3/22

good day for them also on the ruby 2 and black copperhead midges.  Debbie set her all-time record for trout!

Dana had Chuck from Massachusetts on the water Tuesday.

Chuck – 7/5/22

Good day for him on the copperhead black midge under the big ruby.

Wednesday, Gary on the water wading with Ella.  No consistent pattern, but caught on the JQ streamer, red San Juan worm, ruby 2 and holographic green cracklback.

Meagan’s first on fly rod – 7/6/22

Carolyn had William and Meagan out for half a day.  This was Meagan’s first time fly fishing so we worked on basics, caught a few fish, and then did

Forrest – 7/6/22

some casting practice.  Most of the fish were caught on the ruby 2 under the big ruby.  Did catch a few stripping the holographic green crackleback.  Neat and fun couple!
