Lots Of Good Days On The Water!

Thursday, October 6th, 2022

Still having beautiful weather.  Sunny days with temperatures in the 70s or low 80s.  Expect to see some 60s after today with slight chances for rain by early next week.

No change in generation.  Lots of off water time during the morning hours.  On for four to six hours in the afternoon then off again.

Last Thursday, Jim had Gary from Texas on the water.  Good day for him pulling the JQ streamer or nymphing a little ruby midge.

Saturday, Dana took Pat and his friend Brandon out.  Brandon was brand new and certainly caught his fair share of fish.  Very good day for them on the copperhead black and ruby 2 midges.

Jim had taken a one-day fly fishing school with us and wanted to try out his new skills, so we took a half-day trip with Dana on Sunday.  Good day again on the black copperhead and ruby 2 midges.  Carolyn had Terry and his son-in-law to be, Alex, on the water.  They had a really great day on the black copperhead and ruby 2 midges, but also a #20 gray scud or pulling the holographic green crackleback.

Monday, Gary took a couple of guys who have been friends for 50 years, Wayne and Jim.  They had a really good day on the JQ and Tiger Tail streamers and the ruby 2 midge.  Steve from Kansas fished with Jim.  P&P and ruby midges did the job for them.

Jim fished with Jim yesterday.  That was confusing!  Black copperhead midge was the pattern for them.  Dana’s guy, Don, was catching on the black copperhead and ruby 2 midges.  Carolyn had a couple students on their second day of the two-day school, Wes and Donna.  Holographic green crackleback, #20 gray scud and the white mega worm gave them some experience landing fish.

No Generators During Morning & Early Afternoon!

Thursday, September 29th, 2022

No generators and the weather continues to be beautiful.  The only negative is the wind.   Lots of wind the past several days.  But, sunny and 70s & 80s into next week.

As I said, zero generation.  They turned the 17 mwh off yesterday at noon.  Stayed off until around 3:00.  Same thing today.  Zero generation with two units coming on at 3:00.  Tomorrow more of the same.

Caleb’s 1st on fly rod

Carolyn on the water Monday with Carl and Caleb from Nebraska.  Fun day and lots of fish.  This was Caleb’s first time with a fly rod and after a little instruction, he did great.  Ruby 2 under the big ruby.

Tuesday, Jim took Brian and Brett out for half a day.  Good day for them on the ruby, hot5 hare’s ear and the miracle scud.

Jaimi – 9/27/22

Carolyn had John and Jaimi out again.

John – 9/27/22

Good day for these two on the ruby 2 midge.

Mark from Michigan spent half a day with Dana Wednesday.  Lost and broke off on more than they got to the boat.  They were fishing the black copperhead and ruby 2 midges.  Jerry fished with Jim.  Good day for them on the ruby midge and hot hare’s ear.  They did the full run and Jim wished he had done otherwise as they shut down the lot generation at noon.  Carolyn was out with MJ and rowed back up to the put in.  On the way up, since the generation stropped, they stopped at the narrows below the ramp.   It was “fish on” on the ruby 2 but mainly the white mop fly.

Today, reports are great for all those fishers in the water.

More Beautiful Days and Good Fishing!

Thursday, September 29th, 2022

Great weather.  Cool mornings and temperatures during the day are in the 70s or low 80s.  Lots of sunshine!

No change in generation pattern.  Low during the morning hours, 17 mwh, then ramping up for 3 to 5 hours during the early afternoon, then back to 17 mwh for the evening and into the next day.

Lee 9/20/22

Carolyn out with Lee and Charlie from Texas last Tuesday.  Good day for these guys on the ruby 2 midge under the big ruby.  Caught a few on the black copperhead, but the red was best.  Andy and Carole were on the water with Gina.

Carole – 9/20/22

Good day for them on the ruby midge under the big ruby and stripping a green crackleback or tiger tail.  Dana was fishing with John from St. Peters.  It was either a black copperhead or the ruby 2 midge.

Wednesday, Darren had Ron and

Teresa 9/21/22

Teresa from Colorado.  They had a good day on the Lil rusty and the ruby 2 midges.  Amongst their catch that day were four brown.   Carolyn had Steve and Al from Indiana.  Another good day with some quality fish on the ruby 2 midge.  Dana had John back on the water again.  John’s friend, Larry joined him.  This day the ruby 2 or rusty midges were the ticket.  Tom from Iowa fished with Jim.  Yep!  Ruby midge and also the hot hare’s ear.

Thursday, Claude from Texas celebrated his birthday fishing with

David – 9/22/22

Darren.  A 22 midge emerger was their bug that day.  Dana and Carolyn had a father and his two sons on the water.  Dana had the boys, David and Derek.  Carolyn took Dad, David.  Ruby 2 and big ruby.  Jim had Phil and his son, Matt out for half a day.  Ruby midge, scuds and the hot hare’s ear were their patterns.

Micah and his son, Eli, fished with Dana Saturday.  Eli’s first fly fishing trip and he landed most of the fish on the ruby 2 midge.

Doc – 9/24/22

Carolyn had our oldest and longest customer, Doc, from Oklahoma and his

Brian – 9/24/22

friend Brian on the water

A Lot Of Fishing Goin On!

Saturday, September 24th, 2022

Beautiful weather.  Temperatures in the 70s and 80s.  Lots of sunshine and little chances for rain

Generation continues to be very low flow during the morning hours.  Generally ramping up to three of four units around 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with a few exceptions.

Jim on the water last Thursday with Jim and Charlie.  Good day for these guys on the JQ streamer, the red midge and the hot hare’s ear.  As Jim put it,  “good day with old friends”.

Week ago Friday, Darren and Jim took a group of six out of Texas that wanted to wade fish.  Matt, Dianne and Janet fished with Darren and were catching on a midge emerger, soft hacker and a scud/sow bug combo.  Jim’s group really did not had a best fly.

Dean – 9/16/22

Carolyn had one of her regular regulars, Dean, on the water fishing.  Good day on the black copperhed midge with a few on the ruby 2.   Lots of strikes on streamers, but few to the net.   Unfortunately, this picture does not do this fish justice.  It was brilliant!

Monday, Mark and Lynn from South Dakota fished with Carolyn.  Good day for them on the ruby 2, black coppperhead and stripping the holographic green crackleback.  These full-time RVers had a fun day!

Lots Of Low Water Days!

Thursday, September 15th, 2022

Lots of beautiful weather.  Temperatures have been in the low 80s.  We will start to see a little increase in temperatures over the next few days so we will see low to mid 90s next week.  No major rain chances.

We continue to see very low water during the morning and early afternoon hours….17 mwh which is about 1200 cfs or, approximately a foot and a half elevation in the the water level from no generation.

For information,  the DO (dissolved oxygen) is low.   This is an event that happens every year and generally lasts until Table Rock Lake turns.  They are injection liquid oxygen as needed, so the fish are doing okay.  These fish will fight hard when hooked.   Wouldn’t you?  We always want to take care and make certain our fish are good before we release them, but right now it is even more important to take a little extra time and make certain they are okay.  Many times, you release them after a long, hard fight and they swim off a little ways and roll over.  Take that little extra time to make certain they are fully revived.  We have been seeing quite a few dead fish laying on the bottom when we are out on our guides trips.

Jim on the water Monday with Ted and his son, Brian.  They had a good half day on the JQ streamer and the black midge.  Darren had Alex and Jane out.  They had a good day also.  They were fishing a rusty or olive midge.

Wednesday, Mike fished with Dana again (he was out Monday).  Not as good a day as Monday but good.  It was the ruby 2, copperhead black, or rusty midge for them.

Fly tying clinics starting up in December this year.  Check “Fly fishing school/fly tying” on our front page for dates and schedule.

Perfect Days!

Thursday, September 8th, 2022

Sunny days with temperatures in the 80s.  Forecast to be in the 70s Sunday and Monday then back into the 80s.  Light breeze and low generation.  What more could you ask?

They continue to run low (17 mwh) during the morning hours.  Ramping up toe three or four units for a few hours in the afternoon.  Over the weekends, it has been low all day.

Darren and Jim on the water with a group last Saturday.  Darren had Greg and Josh.  Fairly new fly fishers who caught some fish on a double scud rig.  Jim’s guys, Allen and Ryan were also pretty new and also caught some fish on the black midge or stripping a JQ streamer.

Dan – 9/4/22

Sunday, Dana took Dan and Kevin out for half a day.  They had a good day on the black

Kevin – 9/4/22

copperhead midge under the big ruby.

Due to the low flow, they mainly fished above the boat ramp.

Phil – 9/7/22

Phil and Bob fished with Dana

Bob – 9/7/22

Wednesday.  It was another good day on black copperhead midge then the ruby 2 and orange egg.  Carolyn had one of our long-time

Don – 9/7/22

regulars, Don from Illinois.  Good day for Don on the black copperhead midge under the big ruby.

Another long-time regulars day on Thursday.  Ron and Kathy from Louisiana spent half a day on the water with Carolyn.  We worked for them, but had a good

Kathy – 9/8/22

day on….yep, the black copperhead midge under the big ruby.  Did bring in a few on the ruby 2, but it was a black copperhead day.

Lots of New Fly Fishers!

Thursday, September 1st, 2022

Looks like mild temperatures for the coming week.  Slight chances of rain Friday and Monday.  But mid 80s are the forecast.

They continue to have low water during the morning hours.  Over the weekend again, it was low all day both days.  This trend will probably continue as we are pretty low in Table Rock.

Carolyn had Jessica and Brent from Oklahoma on the water last Monday.  Brent has fly fished but Jessica is brand new.  We worked on skills a little before we drifted the banks.  Best patterns were the black copperhead midge and an orange egg pattern.

Tuesday, Dana took Alisha and Chase out for half a day.  Chase has been fly fishing, but this was Alisha’s second time.  Again, the water was low during the morning, so they stayed above the boat ramp.  Caught fish on the ruby 2 and black copperhead midges under the big ruby.

John and his friend Delmar fished with Carolyn Wednesday.  Neither really fished much but they wanted to try their hand at fly fishing.  It was another orange egg pattern day.

Beautiful Weather!

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2022

And more days in the 80s.  Slight warm up over the weekend….low9 90s, but back into the 80s through next week.

We continue to see low water during the morning hours.  This weekend it was low all weekend as well as Monday.  Today, they turned it up at 1:00.

Dana on the water Sunday with Carlyn and her father Jerry.  Pretty good day for them on the black copperhead and ruby 2 midges.  Also caught some on an orange egg pattern.  Low water so they stayed around the boat ramp area.

Lots Of Low Water During The Morning Hours

Sunday, August 21st, 2022

Weather is definitely much cooler.  Temperatures in the 80s for most of the coming week.  Possibly low 90s by the weekend.  No rain in the forecast until the following week.

Low on unit every morning.  Ramping up to three units by 1:00 or 2:00 p.m.  Low one unit all day yesterday, today and projected for tomorrow.

Darren out a week ago this past Thursday and Friday with Jim and his friend David.  They had a couple good days on a double sow/scud rig and soft hackles.  Several nice fish.

The following Saturday, Darren had Jason and Jennifer, from Texas on the water.  Brand new fly fishers had a fun day on the double scud rig and soft hackles.

Carolyn out last Monday with Tonya and Jeremy.  They moved to Tennessee and heard there was fly fishing there so they came to learn a little about fly fishing.  Fun day wading on the gravel bar across from the boat ramp.  Caught a few fish on the black copperhead midge.

Tuesday, Darren had Mike out for half a day.  Tough day.  Fished a black biot midge and soft hackles.  Carolyn had a couple who had

David – 8/16/22

taken the two-day fly fishing school earlier in the year.  They came back for a refresher

Billye – 8/16/22

and had a fun time catching on a golden variant sculpin, a tiger tail and a soft hackle.

Thursday, Darren took Daniel from Michigan out for

Dan – 8/18/22

a half day trip.  It was another double scud rig and soft hackles day.  Dana and Carolyn had a group from Louisiana.  Dana had Ashley and Ryan.  They

Joe – 8/18/22

were catching on the Ruby 2.  Carolyn had Joe and Renee and they were catching on the black copperhead midge under a lightning bug.  Everyone a new fly fisher and they all did very well.

Friday and Saturday, Carolyn had Dean, on the water for a couple half days.  He just recently returned from Alaska where he spent three weeks fishing!  Think he likes to fish.  We didn’t catching anything the size of the fish he was catching up there, but managed to get a few fish to the net on an egg pattern Friday.

Dean – 8/19/22

Saturday was a mixed bag of a few on the egg, then a few on a black copperhead midge.  Some hits stripping.  Nothing consistent.  Was a beautiful weekend!

TC & Timber – 8/20/22

Darren was on the water with a father/son combo on their first fly fishing experience.  The best pattern was the soft hackle.  Fun day for everyone!

Beautiful Weather!

Thursday, August 11th, 2022

Great days on the water.  Temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s.  Looks like this trend will continue for a few more days.  Possible exception is Sunday when the forecast says upper 90s.  Otherwise, Mid 90s and 80s on past Sunday.

Generation pattern continues to be a very low to low one unit until around 1:00 p.m. when they fire up 3 units for five to six hours.  Then back to the low one for the balance of the evening.

Fishing has been up and down.  Talking to several of the fishers getting out and wading during the morning low flow, they are having days when they work hard for three or four fish and other days it’s a great day.  We had students wading Sunday and it was a great day for them for a couple hours stripping the golden variant sculpin pattern.

Chip holding Addie’s fish – 8/9/22

Chip – 8/9/22

Darren on the water Tuesday with Chip and his daughter Addie.  Wonderful day for them on some #18 gray scuds.  Addie caught her first trout on a fly rod.  She had several hits and misses, and  finally got one in!

Yesterday Jim took two young men, Will and Sam, out for the morning to get them started fly fishing.  Good day for them.  They learned a lot, had some fish on…and some fish off.  Got enough technique that they were out again fishing on their own.

Today, Jim took out their parents, Greg and Vicki.  Good day for them and I think Mom might get taken out for dinner tonight as she had the big fish of the two days!  JQ streamer and root beer midge.

Darren had a good first day of his two day trips with Jim from Arkansas.  Caught some nice fish on a double sow bug/scud rig.
