Great Come Back after Ice Storm

Over the weekend, we experienced great weather and cooperative water generation.  Generation shut down Friday arount 9:00 p.m.  No generation until 9:00 p.m. Sunday.  Although they reported 4 generators running part of Monday, it was a lot and kept the tailwater level around 706.8 or lower more of the day until they turned it off at 2:00 p.m.  It was off all night and it projected to be off today.

Fishermen who broke their cabin fever this weekend after last Monday’s ice storm found themselves rewarded with mild temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s and some decent fishing in the special management area on Taneycomo.  With the warm, sunny days, lots of ice melted and several of us ventured out

It seemed as though fishing was a little slower Saturday morning than Satruday afternoon.  Talked to a few guys who came into the shop and they said they were doing pretty good on the red size 16 tungsten bead head midge around the Rebar Hole.  However, their hot fly Saturday was a size 16 holographic copper midge.

Gina started Saturday at the Rockin Chair Hole where she did well on the copper dun midge.  I hit the water a little later and fished further down and did very well on the (you know it) sink tip line with an olive size 12 filoplume.  Did very well on this as well as the size 16 Rusty Brown midge.  Darrell was fishing up near the Hatchery area and he too noted it was slower in the a.m. on Saturday than later in the day.

Sunday was another nice day and the fish were hitting the copper dun midge, blondie crackleback and a black/olive wooly bugger or small pine squirrel scuplin pattern pretty steadily.  Not every cast, but enough to keep you interested and having fun.  One of our customers said that if he was a better fisher he should have caught 100 fish.  Big problem Sunday was short takes.  Another person I met on the water showed me her chewed up crackleback.  She had caught enough fish on it, it was pretty much thread left on the hook!   It was hard pulling myself off the river in time to see the Super Bowl Game!

Thanks for the update. My son called me Sunday night and said he had caught a 25 in rainbow at rebar on Sat. on his first drift. Fished buggers on downstream with some success after that.
